Judging Whippets

Over the years I have been fortunate to judge some very interesting entries of both Whippets and other breeds in different parts of the world. Below are photographs from some of the shows and of some of the Whippets I have had the pleasure to judge. – Bo Bengtson.

WHIPPET CLUB OF RUSSIA

2013 – In June I judged another Whippet specialty in Russia, and although this was only eight months after the previous assignment there were almost twice as many entries: 64, reportedly an all-time record at the time (Pauline Oliver later had even more when she judged). BOB was Ch. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, born in Russia but sired by U.S. export Ch. Aberdeen Remarkable In Paris x a Polish Tylko Ty bitch. (She had been Best Junior Bitch at the previous show.)

FINNISH WHIPPET CLUB

2013 - The week after judging in Russia was the Finnish Whippet Club’s national specialty weekend in Tammela. There were about 200 dogs entered. My BIS was a mostly brindle U.S. export, Ch. Sporting Fields Jamaican Me Crazy (Ch. Harmony’s Pablo Picasso x Sporting Fields Beach Baby), bred by Debbie Butt & Amanda Giles, and owned by Jaana Ihainen. BOS was the Finnish-born fawn young male Softouch Diamond Dust (sired by Remarkable in Paris, so a half brother to the Moscow SBIS winner). The previous day, at the national specialty, I judged bitches and put up the cream fawn C’mere La Boheme, also bred in Finland but by another U.S. sire, Ch. Leyenda’s Spongebobsquarepants. No photo available. Bart Scheerens judged BIS and put up the Russian-owned, Italian-bred Ch. Rivarco Teller of Tales.

ITALIAN SIGHTHOUND CLUB SHOW

2013 - BOB at the beautiful Italian Sighthound specialty at Padenghe del Garda in late May, in a breed entry of 117, was the Junior bitch Sobresalto Ndringhete N' Dra' (pictured), later an international champion. BOS was the U.S. import Am. & Int. Ch. Festiva's Been There Done That.
