A New Century

Some of the best Bohem litters and biggest wins came in the early 2000s. However, since 2008 only a few Bohem litters have been born.

BIS & SBIS Int. & JKC Ch. Bohem Circus Pony

(exp. Japan), b. 1999, by Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote x Ch. Bohem All About Eve. Owned by Mrs. Fukie Yoshimoto, shown in the U.S. by Barbara Wayne.

"Blaze" was both owned and shown by Barbara Wayne, who handled so many champions from both Bohem and other kennels. Her premature death was a great blow to us and to the whole Whippet world.

All About Eve's litter sister Ch. Bohem Age of Innocence (owned by Curtis and Patricia Singer, Diva Whippets) produced several champions in a parallel breeding to Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote.

All About Eve's first litter was sired by Ch. Chelsea Gold Rush of Keynote and included seven champions, most famously the brothers BIS & SBIS Int. & JKC Ch. Bohem Circus Pony (above), SBIS Ch. Bohem Circus Runaway, ROM (owned and shown by Barbara Wayne) and SBIS Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus (owned & shown by Bohem). All three sired multiple champions.

"Chili" spent most of his life at Bohem; he was one of nature's real gentlemen, sweet, funny and very intelligent. He is still greatly missed. He was also very handsome and is as far as we know the only Whippet to win BOB all three days at the big AWC specialty weekend in Lompoc. Although not widely used at stud Chili sired some nice champions — our own Dazzle is very much like her father, Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem won two SBIS  in a limited campaign, and Am. Can. Ch. Counterpoint Jungle Drums, F.Ch., sired more than 20 champions.

All About Eve’s second litter was born in late 2000: four dog puppies sired by artificial insemination from Int. Ch. Bohem Flight Time in Finland. The three shown all finished their championships: Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies (owned by Rita Vanhaeren, Belgium) won SBIS in Europe and the FCI World Winner title in 2006, and Ch. Bohem Just In Time (owned by Nancy Doucette) has become established as a reliable stud dog in the U.S. and won Select at the AWC National Specialty as a veteran.

All About Eve had her third and final litter in 2002, sired by Int. & Braz. Ch. Chelsea Long Kiss Goodnight. Of the five that finished, the best known are Ch. Bohem Belle du Jour (“Audrey”), a multiple SBIS and Hound show BIS winner) and Ch. Bohem C’est la Vie (“Vivi”), a SBIS and AKC All-Breed BIS winner). Both placed high in the AWC Top 20 rankings in 2004 and 2005, respectively. The following sums up Vivi’s brief specials career and was written in the spring of 2006:

b. 2002, by Ch. Chelsea Long Kiss Goodnight x Ch. Bohem All About Eve. AKC All-Breed Best in Show and Specialty BIS. Owned by Jil Walton. Shown by Paul Lepiane.

Her only two puppies both became AKC champions after their dam was lost at JFK airport after Westminster in 2006, occasioning a months-long search. She was never found and is still greatly missed.

In 2004, Vivi — by many considered as the best Bohem Whippet ever — had been bred to Ch. Sportingfields Jazz Fest. This was to be her only litter and resulted in only two puppies. Both finished: Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant won a Select Award at the AWC Western specialty before he was two years old and won a large number of Breeds and Group placements; he has also sired several handsome young champions. His brother, Ch. Bohem Bonhomme, finished with two five-point majors, one of them during a specialty weekend.

SBIS WW Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies (exp. Belgium), b. 2000, by Int. Ch. Bohem Flight Time x Ch. Bohem All About Eve.

Owned by Rita Vanhaeren (Song Sung Blue), Belgium.

A champion in Poland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Sweden, Timmy also took the World Winner title at the FCI World Show in 2006. He has sired a dozen champions in Europe, two of which have won FCI World Winner titles. His son VWW & SBIS Int. & Am. Ch. Song Sung Blue Golddust (Dandy) finished his AKC championship during a visit to Bohem, shown to his U.S. title partly by his owner Marina Slepneva from St. Petersburg, Russia, and partly by Bohem.

"In May 2005 we thought it might be fun to show Vivi a little … Nine show weekends later she was an All-Breed BIS winner and among the Top 5 Whippets in America. Shown a total of 16 weekends in 2005, she won 23 Breeds, 13 Group First and placements, an All-Breed BIS and a Specialty BIS. In her last 16 shows of the year, she won 15 BOBs. Vivi ended the year as #4 Whippet in all-breed competition. In 2006, she was BOB & Group 2nd at the KC of Palm Springs and [got] an Award of Merit at both the AKC/Eukanuba Invitational and Westminster Kennel Club. Vivi was lost at JFK Airport while going home the day after Westminster and as of this writing has not yet been recovered.”

Ch. Bohem Just In Time, ROM, CR, b. 2000 by Int. Ch. Bohem Flight Time x Ch. Bohem All About Eve. Owned by Nancy Doucette of the Redcliffe Whippets, her first one.

Justin was owner-handled to his title, to an Award of Merit at the AWC Eastern specialty and Select at the AWC National specialty, both in 2011 at the age of 10 & 1/2 years of age. As a stud dog, Justin started late, siring his first litter at 6 & 1/2 years, but demonstrated unusual prepotency and sired well over 20 champions, several BIS and SBIS winners (including BOB at the AWC National Specialty 2016), and many lure coursing titled offspring as well. Justin died in 2014 but will hopefully sire a few more puppies from frozen semen.
