SEPT 2013

In September 2013, GCh. Bohem Swan Song (Rosa) came back to us in California due to owner Barbara Wayne's illness. She's fitting right in, obviously recognizes the place she was born, and is so sweet that the older bitches, her dam Izzy and Dazzle, accepted her immediately.

Rosa isn't two years old yet and will be shown a few times in California. She finished as a puppy, won Group 1st and Group 2nd with Barbara, and earned an AOM at AKC Eukanuba at 12 months, but has not been shown for several months.

Otherwise most of the news has centered on the success of youngsters sired by Ch. Bohem Just In Time, CR, Rosa’s grandsire, and by her sire, GCh. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem, SC (Viggo). Justin is owned by Nancy Doucette, who deserves much credit for managing his stud career so wisely. Justin’s progeny includes many champions, several BIS and SBIS winners in the U.S. and abroad. We’re very proud of all the winning Justin kids!

Viggo is owned by Scott Mazer, co-owned by Bohem, and has sired champions in all his first few litters. His young sons Am. & Can. Ch. Nysa Hill Timeless Tempo of Bohem and Ch. Shamasan Bohem Breezing Up (Homer) are both doing well. Tempo is now owned by Shelley & Hailey Webb and co-owned by Scott. Hailey has won in Jr. Showmanship and taken back-to-back BOB and AOM at the AWC specialty in Long Beach with Tempo. Homer was WD and AOM at the AWC National, finished quickly, has also won several BOB and a Group placement.

We’re also pleased to be showing Tempo’s beautiful sister Nysa Hill Timeless Affair, owned by Lesley & Jim Coleman and co-owned by Bohem. She was RWB at the AWC specialty in Long Beach and has several points towards her championship. Congratulations also to Tempo and Ava’s littermates on their big wins in Europe.

Last but not least, Viggo himself won yet another SBIS at the AWC Western Regional specialty in Long Beach. This was his only show in 2013. He’s turning 5 years old this fall and is now one of the breed’s all-time top Specialty winning males in the U.S. A few puppies may be available to the right homes. No breeding is done here, but Bohem bloodlines have produced a few interesting litters, including one by 13-year old frozen semen by Int. Ch. Bohem Flight Time in Canada, by Russian-owned Int. Am. Ch. Song Sung Blue Gold Dust (son of Justin’s litter brother Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies, by Flight Time) in Canada and the U.S., and by Ch. Bohem Just In Time in Italy.

NOVEMBER 2011

Viggo has now gone back East to stay with Phoebe Booth and has already added a number of big BOB wins, Group 1st and Group placements to his list.

Viggo’s son from his first litter Nysa Hill Timeless Tempo of Bohem (x SBIS Ch. Brushwood Timeless Epic), bred by Angie Diehl, has moved to Canada for the winter. His last weekend before leaving he won a specialty weekend major Reserve from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class, shown by Paul Lepiane, and his first weekend in Canada he won WD & BOW, again from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class, shown by Trudy Taphorn. Tempo spent three puppy months at Bohem but is now owned exclusively by Scott Mazer. We wish Tempo a lot of luck! Tempo’s litter mates have also done well already, with back-to-back WD from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class and Best Puppy in Show.

AUGUST 15, 2011

Congratulations to Ch. Bohem Bianca of Jubilee SC, co-bred and owned by Cindi Gredys, who was WB & BOW at the National Whippet Club of Canada specialty on Aug. 12. Bianca was shown four times in Canada, won BOW at all four shows and gained her CKC champion title in one weekend. She has not been show in the US for a few months but was in the AWC Top 20 as a youngster last year. She will be shown again soon.

Bianca's half brother Bohem Jubilee Dreamweaver JC, owned by Julie Negri, won his third major and just needs two single points to finish. His litter brother Ch. Bohem Jubilee What Dreams May Come JC already finished.

We are thrilled to hear of all the wins by Ch. Bohem Just In Time CR offspring, including BOB at the Canadian national specialty and Hound Group wins by SEVEN of his sons and daughters at AKC shows. Justin is owned by and standing at stud with Nancy Doucette. Our own Justin daughter GCh. Charlarmar Sashays In White Linen was shown twice during the big Lompoc specialty weekend, gaining another First Award of Merit and another Select. "Izzy" will be bred as soon as she comes into season. This will be the first litter bred at Bohem in eight years.

The top Whippet male of 2010, GCh. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem SC, has only been shown a couple of times, gained his Senior Courser title, won Select at the AWC specialty in Lompoc (the only day shown that weekend) and BOS at the Western Washington Whippet Association. "Viggo" now has NINE specialty BOB/BOS and is still only two years old. He is owned by Scott Mazer and co-owned by Bohem.

Also congratulations to Viggo's sire Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant and Justin's brother Ch. Bohem Time Flies on all their winning offspring in Scandinavia, Russia and Europe. Most recently, a Bon Vivant son took the Junior World Winner title in Paris, a Time Flies daughter won a Group in Finland, and at the big Donaueschingen Sighthound specialty in Germany a Timmy son won the CAC and a Bon Vivant son was Best Male and Best Junior in Show.

Viggo

MAY 2011

GCh. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem ("Viggo") ended 2010 as the year's #1 Whippet male (Breed, AWC Top 20, and AKC GCh. rankings). He didn't even turn two until towards the end of the year! This year we're taking it easier and focusing mainly on specialties and a few select all-breed shows. In addition to some very nice BOB, Group placements, and Group 1st, there's also the "big one" – BOS in an entry of over 600 Whippets at the AWC National Specialty, and the following weekend two more Specialty BIS back-to-back.

The AWC National Specialty was very good for us. Three of the top six awards in a specials class of 126 champions went to Bohem dogs: in addition to Viggo's BOS, there was 10-year-old Ch. Bohem Just In Time, who got the Select award, owner handled, and his daughter, our own GCh. Counterpoint Sashays in White Linen ("Izzy"), who received the 1st Award of Merit among the bitches, beautifully handled by Tad Brooks. In addition, Justin won the Stud Dog class with two Group-winning Grand Champion daughters and was also BOS in Veteran Sweepstakes. Congratulations to his talented owner Nancy Doucette!

Izzy has only been shown at the National, the GSDWC specialty in Palm Springs, and during the SCWA weekend in Silverado, taking a total of five Select/AOM awards. (She now has a total of 13!) Izzy may have a litter by Viggo later this year if all goes well – if so, that would be the first litter raised at Bohem for eight years.

Latest news: On May 13, we brought home a stud fee puppy by Viggo out of SBIS Ch. Brushwood's Timeless Epic! He's only 8 weeks old at the time of writing, but very handsome, extremely charming and quite fearless! His name will be Nysa Hill Timeless Tempo of Bohem.

Viggo

NOVEMBER 2010

In spite of having to miss some show weekends, GCh. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem (“Viggo”) remains #1 Whippet male in the U.S. for 2010 so far, based on AKC breed points. He went to eight shows in September and October and won seven BOB, three Group 1sts (including Best in Show at a Hound show), a Group 2nd and a Group 3rd. He then cut himself and needed a couple of stitches but will be back in the ring shortly.
Elsewhere in the U.S., GCh. Bohem Bianca of Jubilee was owner handled by Cindi Gredys to three more BOB and two more Group placements, moving her higher up in the AKC Top 20 rankings.
Bianca’s half brother, Ch. Bohem Jubilee What Dreams May Come, JC (“Winston,” sired by A.I. from Swedish & Norwegian Ch. Wolf Tone Viking x Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot, JC) just gained his AKC champion title with a second 4-pt. major and BOW, owner handled by Brenda Wendt. Congratulations to Brenda and Cindi, and good luck with adding more titles to Winston’s resumé.
Also congratulations to the winning offspring of Ch. Bohem Just In Time, CR (owned by Nancy Doucette), sire of three individual Group 1st winners in the past year, and to his litter brother Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies (owner Rita Vanhaeren in Belgium), whose offspring have won champion titles in Europe, USA, Scandinavia and Russia.

AUGUST 2010

The past few weeks have been very exciting. July was a spectacular month for GCh. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem: he was first WD & BOS in one of the biggest entries ever at the Whippet Club of Canada’s national specialty under breeder-judge Thomas Münch (Germany), then took a Hound Group 1st at the Del Monte KC show under judge James White, and finally Specialty BIS at the American Whippet Club in Lompoc under breeder-judge Allan Pepper (Canada) in competition with the top Whippets in the country. This important win made “Viggo” the #1 Whippet male in the country, as listed in AKC breed statistics of July 31.

After Lompoc Viggo had to miss a few shows for family reasons, but he will be back out again in September.

Earlier this summer, Viggo became the first Whippet male (and the third Whippet overall) to win the new AKC Grand Champion title. A few weeks later our Ch. Charlamar Sashays In White Linen also won her Grand Champion title; “Izzy” is a daughter of Ch. Bohem Just In Time, the only sire to have two titlists among the first 10 AKC Grand Champion Whippets; Izzy’s half sister Ch. Festiva’s Lucy Is Fashionably Late is the other.

Izzy is rarely shown but won another BOB and Group 4th in one of her few shows. We hope she will get a few more opportunities later this year. She remains one of our most admired Whippets ever!

Izzy turned 2 years old this summer, Viggo won’t be two until October, and the even younger Ch. Bohem Bianca of Jubilee, who finished at 12 months in June, made a spectacular debut by winning Best in Hound Sweepstakes and back-to-back Selects first time out as a special, then going on to win back-to-back Best of Breeds. All the best of continued luck to Cindi and Amelia Gredys with Bianca.

Bianca is sired by Ch. Bohem Resounding High Jinks out of Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot, the two-time AWC Top 20 “Satine.” Several of her littermates have done well from the puppy class and one is a Jr. Ch. in Colombia. In her previous litter of three sired by Ch. Wolf Tone Viking, Satine produced the brothers Bohem Jubilee What Dreams May Come (“Winston”), who just won a 4-point major, and Bohem Jubilee Dreamweaver (“REO”), who took 6 points in his first 5 shows, including a 3-point major with BOS over specials. We wish them both luck in the show ring and in the field to their owners, Brenda Wendt (Winston) and Julie Negri (REO).

Ch. Charlamar Sashays in White Linen

Ch. Bohem Justin Time, CR with "Izzy" and Ch. Festiva's Lucy is Fashionably Late.

We’ve mostly stayed at home for the past few weeks, but Ch. Bohem Bianca of Jubilee finished her champion title, winning 5 majors, 4 BOB over specials from the Puppy class and 2 Group placements — all at 12 months of age. She’s co-bred by Cindi & Amelia Gredys with Bohem. We wish Cindi and Amela a lot of success with Bianca as she grows up!

Bianca goes back on both sides to our late, beloved BIS Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing (“Betsy”) and descends from a lot of the other old famous Bohem dogs further back in her pedigree.

We’re also proud that Ch. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem gained his AKC Grand Champion title at only 20 months of age. He must have been one of the first Whippets to do so. “Viggo” is currently listed among the Top 10 Whippets in AKC competition, #2 male and already has multiple Group placements to his credit. He is pictured winning Group 2nd under judge George Boulton. Viggo has taken a few weeks off from shows but will shown again during the summer as he matures. He is owned by Scott Mazer, co-owned by Bohem and shown by Paul Lepiane.

Our own Ch. Charlamar Sashays In White Linen took a major BOB and Group placements the only day she was shown during the Mission Circuit in Los Angeles. “Izzy” is mostly shown specialty weekends, but in only five “regular” all-breed shows since she finished she has taken four BOB, Group 1st, 3rd and 4th. Izzy will also be shown a couple of more times this summer. In her last four shows she won four majors towards her Grand Champion title. Izzy is co-owned with breeder Charlotte Lee.

Izzy’s sire Ch. Bohem Just In Time, CR made an appearance at the AWC Eastern specialty, winning a very competitive Veteran class (in spite of being 2 years older than the others), made the cut in the BOB competition and got a well-deserved 1st in the Stud Dog class, standing in front of his two Group winning daughters, “Izzy” (won 1st Award of Merit) and Ch. Festiva’s Lucy Is Fashionably Late. Congratulations to Justin’s owner Nancy Doucette on all the wins for his offspring.

These days Bohem usually only houses two dogs — Izzy and her companion Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC — but in the end of June the “at-home” activities were ratcheted up considerably, with Viggo coming to stay during Scott’s trip to Europe, and also SBIS Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem (co-owned by Michael Strockbine and Reed Hellyer with Bohem) and Mike and Reed’s bitch, “Nora” (Sand Canyon Sonora, a daughter of SBIS Ch. Bohem Belle du Jour) visiting for a few busy days. All the best of luck to Griffin’s puppies out of Ch. Sporting Fields Meadow Mist, most of whom have now gone to their new homes.

Chili and Annie

Chili and Annie.

The past few weeks — most of April, the first half of May — have been very successful at the shows but brought sadness as well.

The young male Ch. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem (Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant x Can. Ch. Counterpoint Winning Colors) has quickly established himself as a top special. We weren’t even planning on showing “Viggo” much this year because he’s so young (he was born October 4, 2008), but he continues to improve, has won three Specialty BOS and already taken a number of BOB over top bitch specials. He won his first Group placement at Kern County KC under judge Randy Garren and took a big Breed at the Western Hound Association of Southern California under breeder-judge Randall Tincher in an entry of 40-plus. Viggo is shown by Paul Lepiane, owned by Scott Mazer and co-owned by Bohem.

Our “blonde bombshell,” Group winning Ch. Charlamar Sashays In White Linen (Ch. Bohem Just In Time x Ch. Oxford’s Kamio Hope and Glory) has only been shown a couple of specialty weekends but earned several more Select awards — including four in a single weekend, which may be some kind of record. “Izzy” is generally admired by everyone, it seems, except possibly for her somewhat controversial coloring…

Neither of the above is even two years old yet, but Bohem Bianca of Jubilee (Ch. Bohem Resounding Highjinks, SC x Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot, JC) is even younger. She followed up her first two successful puppy weekends by winning her fourth major, third BOB over specials competition and second Group placement from the Puppy class at 10 months of age. Bianca is owned and shown by Cindi and Amelia Gredys, co-bred and co-owned by Bohem. She needs just a single point to finish.

Several of Bianca’s full and half siblings have also taken points, BOB and other puppy wins. We wish them all good luck!

Other good news is the success of the offspring of Ch. Bohem Just In Time, CR. A number of his puppies have been winning majors, Breed wins from the classes, etc. Congratulations to owner Nancy Doucette on Justin’s first two young champion daughters!

Overseas, special congratulations to Ch. Song Sung Blue Golddust and owner Marina Slepneva on their wins in Russia and Germany. “Dandy” won his AKC title quickly last year during a visit to Bohem, and he’s now a multiple SBIS winner, won his FCI Int. Ch. title and has sired his first litter. He’s a son of Justin’s litter brother Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies, owned by Rita Vanhaeren in Belgium.

Dazzle

Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC

In May we took a break from the shows, went lure coursing and were pleased that all the Bohems did well. The only one to run officially was Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC (Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey, JC), who really prefers this to the dog shows — but both Viggo and Izzy showed promise in their practice runs also. For the time being they will focus on conformation shows, however.

Sad news came with the deaths at the advanced age of nearly 14 years of Ch. Bohem American Gigolo, who lived in Holland with Han and Katja Brom, and his sister Ch. Bohem Age of Innocence, owned by Curt and Patricia Singer in the U.S. At least three from this remarkable litter by Ch. Starline’s Reign On out of Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing are still doing well and will hopefully celebrate their 14th birthday late in May.

We wish everyone health and success, and good luck at the summer shows!

APRIL 2010

It's been 10 months since the last update, so there's a lot to report in spite of this being such a small kennel. We should be able to add fresh updates on a more regular basis in the future.

The second half of 2009 brought both good and bad. Focusing on the good first, the Bohem show team of four youngsters did spectacularly well in California: Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC (Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey, JC), won multiple Breeds and Group placements, and earned Awards of Merit at all her three specialty events in 2009, including the AWC specialty in Lompoc. We hope "Dazzle" will be able to focus more on field activities in the future – that's where her heart lies!

Ch. Charlamar Sashays In White Linen (Ch. Bohem Just In Time x Ch. Oxford's Kamio Hope and Glory), finished with BOB and BOS over top specials competition from the classes, and Best in Sweepstakes at the NCWFA specialty under breeder judge Dan Lockhart (Saxon Shore). She won three BOBs, Group 1st and Group 3rd at her first three shows as a special, but will only be shown during specialty weekends as she matures. She already received an Award of Merit at the WCGSD specialty at Palm Springs in January. "Izzy" is co-owned with breeder Charlotte Lee in Louisville, KY.

Ch. Counterpoint Painted by Bohem (Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant x Can. Ch. Counterpoint Winning Colors), was Best Puppy at the AWC specialty in Lompoc and finished at 12 months of age by going WD & BOW at the NCWFA specialty under breeder judge Julie Holm. "Viggo" has already won several BOBs as a young special over top ranked BIS bitches, and took BOS at three specialties in a row – SCWA (held with AKC/Eukanuba) in December, WCGSD at Palm Springs in January and the Arizona Whippet Association in March, not yet 18 months old. Viggo is owned by Scott Mazer in Los Angeles, co-owned by Bohem and shown by Paul Lepiane.

The fourth youngster was a visitor from Russia, Ch. Song Sung Blue Golddust (Ch. Bohem Time Flies x Starline's Limited Edition), who came for a few weeks' visit with his owner, Marina Slepneva of St. Petersburg. Both were wonderful house guests and Marina showed "Dandy" to three majors at Ventura's "Summerfest" just a few days after arriving. When soon added an AKC title to his Russian championship, shown a total of only five weekends, handled to his last points by Bo and co-owned in the U.S. by Bohem. Since returning to Russia, Dandy has won a Specialty BIS. Frozen semen is available.

The bad news concerned Ch. Bohem All About Eve, who died on Nov. 4 at 13 & 1/2 years of age. She had not done well for a few months but it was still a shock as up until then she had never been sick a day in her life, and we somehow expected her to live forever. "Annie" was one of the most positive, happy and popular Bohem Whippets ever. She was also a great brood bitch with 15 champions in her three litters (14 conformation, 1 field), including six SBIS winners and two AKC all-breed BIS winners. She was the grandmother or great-granddam of all the four youngsters above.

As far as we know (and we're in touch with most of them), all Annie's litter mates are still alive and well, except Int. Ch. Bohem Adam's Rib who died in France a few months prior to Annie; "Maya" had produced at least a dozen champions for Jackie Bourdin's famous de la Grenouillére kennel. This was a remarkable litter of seven champions sired by Ch. Starline's Reign On x Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing.

The only other Bohem adult being shown in 2009 was Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot (Ch. Cove Creek Pride and Joy x Ch. Bohem Ooh-La-La), owned and shown by Cindi & Amelia Gredys and co-owned by Bohem. "Satine" was an AWC Top 20 qualifier in both 2007 and 2008, and ranked high in early 2009 as well before giving birth to a big litter in May – the first one ever sired by nearly 7-year old Ch. Bohem Resounding Highjinks.

The only puppies shown so far are Bohem Bianca of Jubilee, (specialty WB & BOW from the puppy class, 3 majors, 2 BOB over specials, Puppy Group 1st, Group 4th, etc.), and Bohem Jubilee Basile, who travelled to Colombia with his new owner Juan José Ruiz Garcia and won Best Puppy in Show there. The three puppies from Satine's first litter (sired by Nordic Ch. Wolf Tone Viking, a son of Int. Ch. Bohem Flight Time) are all pointed before 18 months of age, and Bohem Jubilee Dreamweaver, owned by Julie Negri, has already made a good start in the field.

A special cause of pleasure is the success experienced by Ch. Bohem Just In Time, CR in his mature years. "Justin" didn't sire his first litter until he was six years old but now has large number of young sons and daughters who are major pointed, finished and/or BOB winners from the classes. Justin is owned by Nancy Doucette; for further details, see www.redcliffewhippets.com. His litter brother Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies, who lives in Belgium, has also sired a number of champions in Europe, Russia and the U.S.

JUNE 2009

After hardly showing or breeding for the past few years it’s nice to be back in the ring with a couple of promising youngsters and a beautiful new special. Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC (“Dazzle”) has only been out a few weekends since finishing in December but already made her mark. In the first two weekends she won two Specialty Select Awards of Merit, and in the next three weekends she took four Breed wins and two Group placements. She’s a delight to live with and livens up the household considerably.

Stopping over at the AWC National Specialty on the way home from judging in Italy in May, it was impossible not to notice a lovely cream & white daughter of Ch. Bohem Just In Time winning a Puppy class of 40: Charlamar Sashays In White Linen. A lot of people wanted her, but to make a long story short her owner/breeder Charlotte Lee generously allowed “Izzy” to come and live with us in California. We can’t thank her enough: Izzy and Dazzle have a great time together, and Izzy has already taken three sets of Winners Bitch in a row, including a Best of Breed over five specials. Izzy was co-bred by Charlotte with Dianne Bowen out of Ch. Oxfords Kamio Hope and Glory.

A Canadian-born son of Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant, the very young Counterpoint Painted By Bohem, has made a rather sensational debut. Shown four weekends at just 8 months of age he already has gone WD four times, RWD twice, won a major, BOS over specials twice and Best of Breed over five specials from the 6-9 months Puppy class. “Viggo” is owned by Scott Mazer in Los Angeles, but we’re fortunate to co-own him and he is usually shown by Paul Lepiane. Viggo was bred by John Ross and Trudy Taphorn out of Can. Ch. Counterpoint Winning Colors, a granddaughter of our late, beloved Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus.

The litter brother of Bon Vivant, Ch. Bohem Bonhomme, finished in March with a second 5-point specialty weekend major and BOS over an impressive specials class. “Tommy” is owned by Kathy Lyons; he and his brother were the only puppies born in the only litter whelped out of the great Ch. Bohem C’est la Vie; their sire is Ch. Sportingfields Jazz Fest. We hope Tommy will have a positive influence at stud, as his brother already has had.

We look forward to attending a few more shows in the summer and fall of 2009 but don’t want to leave “grandma” Ch. Bohem All About Eve at home for too long. “Annie” has turned 13 years old now, is still doing well and is two or more generations behind all the youngsters — sometimes more than once. We are so pleased to find that ALL the seven champion siblings in this litter are still alive and well.

Other than this, the most important news is that Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot (“Satine”) surprised us by producing another litter in May. She qualified for AWC’s Top 20 competition for the second year in a row in 2008, in spite of taking time out for a litter in October. She was doing even better early this year (#4 Whippet, #1 Owner-Handled) and we didn’t plan on breeding her again until 2010 — but she took things into her own paws and produced a big litter by Ch. Bohem Resounding Highjinks in May! (See Puppies Available.) The whole family resides with Cindi Gredys at Jubilee Hounds in Nebraska.

There were only three puppies in Satine’s litter by Ch. Wolf Tone Viking (a Swedish son of Ch. Bohem Flight Time). The only one shown so far is Jubilee’s Sweet Dream of Bohem, owned by Kathy Whitby in Canada, who is already halfway to her title with BOB’s and a Group placement, Puppy in Group wins, etc. The brothers, Bohem Jubilee What Dreams May Come and Bohem Jubilee Dreamweaver, will be shown this summer.

Finally, we’re proud of the influence that the few Bohem dogs available at stud are having. None of them are heavily used but all have useful characteristics to pass on: Ch. Bohem Just In Time in the U.S. and his brother Int. Ch. Bohem Time Flies in Europe; Ch. Bohem Circus Runaway in the U.S. and his brother Int. Am. Ch. Bohem Circus Pony in both Japan and the U.S.; and of course the much younger Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant and hopefully also in the future his brother Ch. Bohem Bonhomme, both in the U.S. None of them are at stud with their breeder, but we will be happy to forward inquiries to the respective owners.

FEBRUARY 2009

Ch. Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC (Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey, JC), finishes her title.

OCTOBER 2008

There have been a lot of changes during the past couple of months. Most importantly, Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot (Satine) whelped 3+1 on October 18 from artificial insemination by our old favorite Ch. Wolf Tone Viking in Sweden. He is a son of Ch. Bohem Flight Time whom we sent to Finland many years ago out of a Signum bitch of mostly American breeding with mostly Merci Isle and some Bohem background.

The litter is raised by Satine’s co-owner Cindi Gredys in Nebraska, but we hope that one or two puppies will come to California later. These are the first Bohem-bred puppies in more than four years.

We were delighted that Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem won another Specialty BIS at the No. California Whippet Fanciers Association the same day as the puppies were born. Griffin turned two years old in August and has only been shown a half dozen times — always at specialty weekends — since he finished in April, yet he’s won 2 Specialty BIS, 2 Awards of Merit and 1 BOS. He has also passed all health testing, sired his first litter and stands at stud to suitable bitches with Michael Strockbine in Palm Springs.

Also, we have a new addition in Griffin’s half sister Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, JC (Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey, JC), who arrived in late August and is a total delight! She’s everything we hoped for and more, and she has already added to her point score in California. Thanks to Paula Knight for letting us have her. Her litter brother, Paula’s Ch. Arwen Glitter Galaxy of Chelsea, finished with specialty majors and breeder Lisande Donohoe’s Ch. Arwen Glitter Fantasy also finished.

We’re so pleased that puppies from the few litters sired by our wonderful Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus who died a year ago, have done so well. A son from his first litter, Am. Can. Ch. Counterpoint Jungle Drums in Canada, is the sire of a number of champions on both sides of the border, including one of the top dogs of all breeds in Canada for 2008!

We received the sad news that Ch. Bohem Flight Time died in Finland at 15 & ½ years of age. Several of his family have lived unusually long lives. Our own Ch. Bohem All About Eve (Annie) is 12 & ½ years old now, and although she had a small stroke a couple of weeks ago she has recovered and is doing well. We’re in touch with almost all the litter-mates, and they are also all healthy and happy.

MAY 2008

We’ve had a very successful spring, in spite of hardly attending any shows. Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot (Satine) is among the top Whippets in the country, thanks to co-owner Cindi Gredys, taking several more big Breeds and Group placements.

Ch. Maverick Griffin of Bohem finished in style by getting his second specialty major under breeder judge David Samuelson at the So. Cal. Whippet Association, handled by co-owner Michael Strockbine to WD and by breeder Rachel Amado to BOB and SBIS.

And at the AWC National Specialty in Oregon our old Ch. Bohem All About Eve (granddam of both Satine and Griffin) won a National Specialty Select at nearly 12 years of age under judge Cindy Scott. There was a specials class with 94 champions entered. There are barely any Bohem dogs left in the classes, but Bohem Bonhomme (Tommy) won a 5-point major and should finish soon: he has not been shown a lot but has two Breeds and a BOS from the classes and is one of the only two puppies in Ch. Bohem C’est la Vie’s only litter. (The other one, Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant, has already sired a couple of young champions.) We’re also pleased with the young offspring of our beloved late Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus (Chili).

In addition to Griffin, Ch. Arwen Glitter Fantasy finished quickly (with three 5-point majors!) and her brother Arwen Glitter Galaxy of Chelsea has two specialty weekend majors. We look forward to their sister Arwen Glitterati of Bohem visiting during the summer and to showing her in California. None of these are even close to two years old yet.

Chili’s adult son Ch. Counterpoint Jungle Drums is turning into a top class stud dog with young winners in both the U.S. and Canada. There has not been a Bohem litter for nearly four years, but we hope that Satine will be bred by A.I. to Ch. Wolf Tone Viking (Ch. Bohem Flight Time x Signum Soprani) in Sweden this summer. We are looking forward very much to this litter!

FEBRUARY/MARCH 2008

2007 was a mixed year. Our wonderful SBIS Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus ("Chili") suffered a serious accident while out playing in early February and was left immobilized, requiring intensive care and a long recuperation, involving acupuncture and other treatment. He improved steadily for several months to the point where he could walk on his own, but after a second incident during late summer he started being in pain. All possible kinds of therapy were tried in the hope that something would help, but to save him from suffering he was finally put down in early October. He was not quite 9 years old and one of the greatest characters ever. We miss him a lot. To allow Chili to convalesce in quiet we placed the puppies, so the "kennel" at home currently consists only of Chili's dam, SBIS Ch. Bohem All About Eve, who is in wonderful form and as fit as ever. She will be 12 years old this spring. We may show her a couple of times as a veteran again.

Of the puppies, Chili's son Maverick Griffin of Bohem (x Merci Isle Maverick Bandana JC) went to Barbara Wayne and won most of his points before 12 months of age, including an American Whippet Club specialty major under breed specialist judge Dr. John Shelton. Griffin needs just a 3-point major to finish and lives with his new owners Michael Strockbine and Reed Hellyer in Palm Springs. He was bred by Rachel Amado & Henry Heil and is co-owned by Bohem and Erika Tonder.

Our black beauty, Flying Mistral JC, whom we got from her breeder, our neighbor Lee Anne Norris, is co-owned with her and Tina Graham by Bohem. Misty has only been shown a few times in conformation while maturing but won well during specialty weekends. She is close to her field title and in spite of her youth ended 2007 in the Top 20 AKC Lure Coursing.

There have been no Bohem litters for over three years, but one of the two youngest whippets bred by Bohem, Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant, has taken AWC specialty Select as well as a lot of Breeds and Group placements; he is also proving an excellent sire, with his first sons from two different litters finishing their titles. His only littermate (the only two puppies born out of the great but ill-fated BIS & SBIS Ch. Bohem C'est la Vie) is Bohem Bonhomme, who has won Best of Breed over specials competition and is getting close to his championship.

A new youngster, Ch. Bohem Some Like It Hot, finished her title with several Breeds and Group placements from the classes in the past year and ended up qualifying for AWC's 2008 Top 20 competition. She made her debut as a special during the big AWC specialty weekend in California, going BOB over 99 Whippets and making the cut in one of the year's biggest Hound Groups. She also won back-to-back Breeds at the big Del Valle specialty weekend and again made the cut in the huge Hound Groups both days. Satine was a gift from her breeders, George & Connie Boulton, out of their lovely Ch. Bohem Ooh-La-La (a sister to "Vivi") and sired by SBIS Ch. Cove Creek's Pride and Joy. We are pleased to co-own Satine with Cindi Gredys and look forward to seeing how she matures. (She won back-to-back big Breeds at her only shows so far in 2008, handled by Cindi's junior handler daughter Amelia.)

We were also pleased to get a stud fee puppy by Chili out of the lovely Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey JC, Arwen Glitterati of Bohem, bred by Lisande Donohoe & Deann Christianson. Since we can't keep "Dazzle" at home she is co-owned and lives with Paula Knight of Templar Whippets. First weekend out, owner-handled by Paula, Dazzle won a major, BOW and BOS over a special from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class! Several of the littermates have also won points, including one with back-to-back 5-point majors from the 6-9 mo. puppy class.

Justin

Ch. Bohem Just in Time

Although they are conservatively used, Bohem-bred stud dogs have sired some beautiful puppies. Chili's litter brothers, Ch. Bohem Circus Runaway ("Blaze"), BIS Ch. Bohem Circus Pony ("Whispa") are both top sires, with Blaze qualifying for the AWC Register of Merit, and Whispa who lives in Japan has sired approx. 20 champions in the US and Asia. Their younger half brothers Ch. Bohem Time Flies (in Belgium) and Ch. Bohem Just in Time have promising puppies on the way, as does Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant. Just in Time (Justin) was not used at stud until last year but now has four good-looking litters on the ground.

Although we don't have any dogs at stud at Bohem we will be happy to put anyone interested in touch with the owners of the above dogs. Whether there will be any more Bohem puppies in the future is uncertain, but there may be a co-bred litter in 2008 if all goes well.

P.S. Congratulations to Satine on yet another big Breed win over six Specials and Group 3rd in some of the country’s top Hound competition in Denver on Feb. 15, and to Chili’s daughter Ch. Arwen Glitter Fantasy (x Ch. Chelsea Supernatural Odyssey), owned by Lisande Donohoe.

Congratulations to Timmy’s daughter Jee-Bee’s Crystal de Bohème, Best Puppy in Show at the Luxembourg international show in March. She was 7 months old, by Ch. Bohem Time Flies x Jee-Bee's Royal Victory (Ch. Lorricbrook Bandleader x Multi Ch. Highland Hill Mary Legacy), bred & owned by Claudine Pfister in France.

DECEMBER 2006

Vivi

Vivi with Paul at Westminster the day before she was lost.

Vivi

Vivi.

The Bohem "kennel" in mid-December, 2006 consists of only SBIS Ch. Bohem All About Eve ("Annie," 11 years old), her son SBIS Ch Bohem Three Ring Circus ("Chili," 8 years), and two puppies. Earlier in the year we lost Annie's wonderful dam, BIS Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing ("Betsy") at nearly 15 years of age, and shortly after that Annie's daughter, BIS & SBIS Ch. Bohem C'est la Vie ("Vivi") was lost at JFK Airport in New York the day after Westminster. Ten months later Vivi has not been found and much of the year has been spent dealing with the fallout from this loss. There have been several thousand emails, calls and letters; the media coverage is unprecedented and has continued this entire time, with major stories in New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsday, People magazine, etc.

Most of the major talk shows reported on the loss, and a video of Vivi in the show ring at Westminster has been replayed endlessly on TV. Jil, her fiancé (now husband) Rick, Paul and Bo all made repeated trips from California to assist in the search, led by a devoted team of volunteers in New York, headed by Honi Reisman and Bonnie Folz.

All available methods of finding Vivi have been employed, from 'Search & Rescue' teams to animal psychics, live traps and over 50,000 posters with Vivi's photo. Regular sightings were confirmed for at least six or seven months, proving that she could survive New York winter and traffic. Our hope is that Vivi has finally been picked up by someone who will finally contact us. Vivi Running..... photo Carol Beuchat!

Why Vivi's disappearance hit such a nerve with the media and the public is a mystery. Vivi is obviously very special to us, but other dogs are lost every day without receiving a fraction of the attention that Vivi has received. Whatever the reason, all involved appreciate the concern and interest shown in Vivi and hope that other lost dogs will have people who care as much about their disappearance.

For obvious reasons, showing and breeding activities were mostly shelved for the entire year. Vivi's show ring success just prior to her loss still kept her among the top rated Whippets invited to AKC's National Show in Long Beach in December, 2006. We are very grateful to the owners of Bohem bred dogs that have done well in 2006.

Vivi's son, Ch. Bohem Bon Vivant, has won numerous Breeds, Group placements, etc. and also sired some nice young litters. "Jonny" is owned by Jane Cooney-Waterhouse and has been shown by Jodi Paquette. Others which have done well include Ch. Bohem Time Flies (Rita Vanhaeren), who among his other wins in Europe took the World Winner title at the FCI World Show in Poland in an entry of 177 Whippets. Ch. Bohem Golden Delicious (Robin Burk & Judy Corbett) has taken some nice Breeds in the US, her brother Ch. Bohem Garden Delight (Ingela Kyrklund) finished in Sweden, and Jonny's litter brother Bohem Bonhomme (Kathy Lyon) is also well on the way to his title.

There is also a young bitch out of Ch. Bohem Ooh-La-La, Vivi's litter sister. This is Bohem Some Like It Hot, co-owned by Bohem with Cindi Gredys and handled by her to three Best of Breeds (including over Top Ten specials competition) and a Group placement at 18 months. "Satine" was bred by George & Connie Boulton, to whom we are very grateful for letting us have her. We wish all these a lot of luck in 2007!

Misty

Griffin

Griffin at 10 weeks.

At home, there are two new puppies: the black & white bitch Flying Mistral, bred by our neighbor, Lee Anne Norris, who still co-owns "Misty" with us, and the brindle male, Maverick Griffin of Bohem (bred by Rachel Amado & Henry Heil).

Misty is an almost complete outcross (by Ch. Dragonwing Sirocco, SC x Ch. Blueskies N'Tivio La Juive, SC), although she has some old Bohem blood way back in her pedigree.

Griffin is sired by our own SBIS Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus out of Merci Isle Maverick Bandana, JC. We hope to show both puppies on occasion in 2007.

We are always happy to help interested puppy buyers when possible.

JUNE 2003

The spring of 2003 has been very successful both on the show and breeding front, but above all we are happy to report that Ch. Bohem Romanesque (Tootsie) has finished her Dual Champion title. She took two big specialty weekend majors in California as a youngster, finished her show title quickly with Barbara Wayne, and completed her field title in the care of Deborah Bahm. Congratulations to owner Kim Otero, and special thanks to Deborah for her help. Tootsie is sired by Ch. Watch Me Ari Independence x Ch. Bohem Of Thee I Sing: and helped qualify her dam for the ROMX award with this title.

On the show scene, incorporating the two California specialties in May, litter sisters Bohem Belle du Jour (Audrey) and Bohem C'est la Vie (Vivi) took home five majors between them, each going Reserve to the other on at least one occasion. Audrey made a spectacular debut her first time shown by new owner Charles W. Carroll, taking a specialty major at the So. California Whippet Club under judge Charles Roberts.

At the same show Vivi was Best in Sweepstakes and Reserve to her sister. Vivi won her first major and BOW a few days later during the San Diego specialty weekend, owner-handled by Jil Walton, and then repeated those wins twice more a week later during the Mission Circuit, where Audrey also got her second major. The "French sisters" turned a year old in late April.

A third sister, Bohem Ooh-La-La, has been owner-handled by George & Connie Boulton to several WB, BOW and BOS; the fourth sister, Bohem C'est Si Bon as well as brothers Bohem Rendezvous and Bohem Beau Monde all have points or reserve from the Puppy class. All these are sired by Dual Ch. Chelsea Long Kiss Goodnight out of Ch. Bohem All About Eve (Annie), who qualified for her ROM at six years of age and is the dam of 10 champions from her first two litters. Most recently, her son Ch. Bohem Time Flies gained his title in Belgium and took the first step towards his FCI Int. Ch. title. He is owned and handled in Europe by Rita Vanhaeren and has also sired his first litter over there.

A couple of the puppies from the young litter by Ch. Chelsea Made You Look of Sage x Ch. Bohem Resounding Renaissance have already done well, particularly Bohem Resounding Commotion, owned by Robin Burk, who first took BOB from the 6-9 mo. Puppy class and the next weekend won a 5-point major and BOS over specials competition! We wish him and the littermates, cobred with Susan Salladay, the best of luck in the future.

On the home front, Hanna Russell has been visiting from England since February, helping with the dogs and also showing Whippoorwill Bohem Glimmer successfully in the 6-9 mo. Puppy class, taking Best Puppy, a major Reserve etc. Glimmer's great-granddam Of Thee I Sing (Betsy) turned 12 and granddam Annie 7 years of age in May - both are in good shape and will probably be shown as veterans at the Lompoc specialty.

We have been lucky enough to co-breed two small but high quality litters this spring. One of them is sired by Ch. Starline's Reign On x Ch. Bohem Bearded Lady, which resulted in four dog puppies. The other litter is sired by our own Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus x his aunt Ch. Bohem Age of Innocence. Thanks to Bobbi Huber and Curt & Pattee Singer for entrusting us with all the puppies, which will spend the summer here at Bohem while we try to determine their futures. The above was the first litter sired by Three Ring Circus, but a second one - consisting of nine puppies - was born in Canada a few weeks later, and a couple of other bitches have been booked to him. 'Chili' has only been shown a few times at specialty weekends this year but maintains his position as the leading male on the West Coast and has won BOB or BOS almost every time shown over the past year! No puppies are planned at Bohem for some time, but we will do our best to forward inquiries.

MARCH 2003

2002 ended as one of the best years ever for Bohem Whippets: six new champions, including our 100th (!), as well as the fourth Bohem AKC all-breed Best in Show winner and the fifth Bohem AWC specialty Best in Show winner in the last 15 years. 2003 looks like an active year, with the two litters from last year getting ready to start their show careers. All the six puppies from Ch. Bohem All About Eve's litter (sired by Ch. Chelsea Long Kiss Goodnight) which have been shown have done very well, and the younger puppies out of Ch. Bohem Resounding Renaissance (cobred with Susan Salladay and sired by Ch. Chelsea Made You Look of Sage) will make their debuts in April.

We are hoping for two new litters this spring. Ch. Bohem Bearded Lady (litter sister to the renowned "Circus brothers") has been bred to 13-year old SBIS Ch. Starline's Reign On, the breed's top living sire, while SBIS Ch. Bohem Age of Innocence was bred to SBIS Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus a couple of weeks later. With luck we should have some very nice puppies in late March and early April.

Of the puppies we kept here, 10 month old Bohem Belle du Jour will move to Charles W. Carroll, Jr. in March: she has already taken her first point towards her title and we wish them much luck together. We still have Whippoorwill Bohem Glimmer (5 months old daughter of SBIS Ch. Bohem Circus Runaway x Ch. Whippoorwill Star Power, bred by Dr. Barbara Henderson) and Bohem Resounding Fol-de-Rol (4 months, from the above litter co-bred with Susan Salladay). They are keeping us quite busy and we are grateful to Hanna Russell who has come over from England to visit and help out with the dogs for a few months. Puppy inquiries from serious, permanent, loving homes are welcome.

AUGUST 2002

Late spring and summer have been among the most successful times ever for Bohem. The following is just a short recap of the major wins. In California, Bohem Viva la Diva won three majors during the San Diego and Southern California Whippet Club specialty weekends, going BOW each time, and finished her championship barely 20 months old. Her cousin Bohem First Flight won his first major and BOW the day after the San Diego specialty, and Ch. Bohem Three Ring Circus shot right up among the top Whippets in the country by winning the AWC Western specialty in Lompoc as well as BOB the next two days, defeating over 350 entries in one weekend - something which as far as we know no Whippet has ever achieved before during this prestigious weekend.

To make matters even better, his aunt Age of Innocence was Select at the Specialty and BOS the next day, and a son and daughter of his brother Circus Runaway won two of the big majors, with a daughter of Winona as Reserve!

Meanwhile, in Florida at the AWC supported entry the week before Lompoc, Nancy Doucette had a dream weekend, winning a major and BOW the first day with Bohem Just in Time, leaving him one point short of his title. The next day he finished with a 5-pt. major, BOW and BOS over specials competition, and when he was moved up as a special the last day (winning BOS again) Nancy´s other dog, Whispa JP Bohem Tinsel, won a 5-pt. major and also finished his title! Congratulations to Nancy on owner-handling her dogs to all these wins and on finishing two new champions in two days!

Just in Time´s litter brother Bohem Time Flies has won several CAC´s in Europe, winning under English, American, Swedish and Continental judges. Most recently he won CAC and BOB at the German Whippet Club show in Darmstadt under Mr. Barry Kennett of Selinko Whippets, UK. Timmy is owned by Rita Vanhaeren in Belgium.

The third brother, Bohem First Flight, was Winners Dog both days at Santa Barbara Kennel Club, with Ch. Bohem Viva la Diva going BOB under British judge Jill Peak. Also in Europe, Ch. Bohem American Gigolo, owned by Han & Katja Brom, made a come-back of sorts after a couple of years of being mostly away from the shows by going Best Dog and Res. BIS at the Dutch Whippet Club show under judge Knut-Frithiof Blütecher. "Mike" is the sire of a number of CAC winners in Europe.

The most successful of all the Bohems this year is still Ch. Bohem Circus Pony, who is well on his way to Top 20 status for the third successive year, shown by Barbara Wayne, with multiple Group wins, another Specialty BIS, and a wonderful all-breed Best in Show win at Wheaton KC under judge Mrs. Joan P. Anselm. He receives consistently rave reviews from experienced breed specialists and all-rounder judges alike, and is also turning into an influential sire, with 4 new AKC champions so far this year. He will return to his owner Mrs. Fukie Yoshimoto in Japan at the end of the year.

On the home front, Ch. Bohem All About Eve produced a beautiful litter of 10, sired by Int. Am. & Braz. Ch. Chelsea Long Kiss Goodnight, all of whom have now gone to their new homes. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to seeing them at the shows as they grow up.
